The Centre for Immunology & Infection (C2i) uses novel technology platforms for biomarker discovery and the development of new vaccine and therapeutic strategies.


It is the fruit of a long-standing partnership of more than 20 years between the LKS Faculty of Medicine of the University of Hong Kong (HKUMed) and the Institut Pasteur, Paris, two major international leaders combining their expertise to establish this centre of excellence.


C2i aims to establish a novel technology platform for biomarker discovery and development of new vaccine and therapeutic strategies. C2i addresses major unmet global and local public health needs with excellent potential for commercial exploitation.


Job Description

Applications are now invited for appointment as Senior Research Assistant (holding the functional title of Data Scientist or Data Analyst) (Ref.: C2i073P1), to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year contract basis with contract-end gratuity and the company’s contribution to MPF schemes, totalling up to 10% of basic salary, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and mutual agreement.

Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree or above in statistics, biostatistics, computer science, mathematics, informatics, data science or a related discipline, with at least 3 years’ relevant work experience. Those with less work experience may be considered for the post of Research Assistant I.

They should have a strong quantitative background; experience in analysing biomedical data using R or other statistical packages; and demonstrated expertise in the management, the exploration, the visualisation, and the analysis of large and complex datasets.

They should also have excellent written and oral communication skills; the ability to work independently as well as in a multidisciplinary international team; and the ability to acquire new data analysis techniques by self-learning. They should be organised, responsible, resourceful, attentive to details, and able to multi-task and present abstract concepts in an accessible way to audiences of different backgrounds. Proficiency in multi-omics integrative analyses, and knowledge of immunology, and state-of-the-art statistical and machine learning models would be advantages. The ability to develop interactive data-driven web applications would be a plus (R Shiny-based). The appointee will be primarily responsible for the applied and methodological work in biomedical statistical research, and he/she will work with a team in projects investigating the key determinants of the immune response variability. Additional responsibilities include developing and tracking data project timelines, preparing status reports and data reports for both internal and external use, and managing data resources. He/She will curate data; generate tables and figures for reports and presentations; liaise with data manager and life scientists to support the cohort’s data-related work; contribute to scientific publications, grant proposals and reports; and perform general administrative, operational and other duties as assigned. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.
