Technical Officer (holding a functional title as Lab Assistant Manager) / Senior Lab Assistant

The Centre for Immunology & Infection (C2i) uses novel technology platforms for biomarker discovery and the development of new vaccine and therapeutic strategies.


It is the fruit of a long-standing partnership of more than 20 years between the LKS Faculty of Medicine of the University of Hong Kong (HKUMed) and the Institut Pasteur, Paris, two major international leaders combining their expertise to establish this centre of excellence.


C2i aims to establish a novel technology platform for biomarker discovery and development of new vaccine and therapeutic strategies. C2i addresses major unmet global and local public health needs with excellent potential for commercial exploitation.


Technical Officer (holding a functional title as Lab Assistant Manager) / Senior Lab Assistant (Ref.: C2i046P3)


Applications are now invited for appointment as Technical Officer (holding a functional title as Lab Assistant Manager) / Senior Lab Assistant (Ref.: C2i046P3), to commence as soon as possible, on a one-year contract basis with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and mutual agreement.


Applicants should possess a Higher Certificate, preferably in Biological/Biomedical Sciences, Biotechnology, Public Health, Laboratory Techniques, or related disciplines. Those with Bachelor degree or higher would be advantageous. They should have at least 3 years’ laboratory work experience in any tertiary institution, R&D laboratory or relevant settings. Experiences in large scale sample storage and management, biological/biomedical sample handling, laboratory SOP development for users, inventory maintenance are highly desired. Experiences in biomedical research, core equipment operation, procurement in a laboratory setting, inventory maintenance, and chemical/biological waste handling are preferred.


They should also have good computer knowledge and IT skills, and a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin). He/she is expected to work in a team, with self-motivation, a strong sense of responsibility, good interpersonal and communication skills, high organization skills, and the ability to multi-task and work independently and collaboratively as a team, and willingness to learn new techniques.


Those with a higher qualification and/or more work experience may be appointed as Technical Officer (holding a functional title as Lab Assistant Manager).


The appointee will join a multidisciplinary research team to assist in large scale sample storage and management, laboratory SOP development and update, supporting daily management of a virology laboratory, including routine lab and equipment maintenance, procurement, stock monitoring, inventory, basic sample processing, data entry, some general administration duties, and perform other duties as assigned.
