[Seminar] Building a Data Toolbox for the Milieu Intérieur and the HHGP-HK projects

Join us on December 7th for a lecture organised with the HKU-Pasteur Research Pole by Dr. Vincent Rouilly from C2i's Healthy Human Global Project - Hong Kong and the Institut Pasteur.

Date: Thursday 7 December 2023

Time: 10:00am – 12:00pm

Venue: Seminar Room 2, G/F, HKJC Building for Interdisciplinary Research, 5 Sassoon Road, Pokfulam, Hong Kong

Abstract:

The Milieu Intérieur (MI, https://milieuinterieur.fr/) project, from the Institut Pasteur Paris, and more recently, the Healthy Human Global Project - Hong-Kong (HHGP-HK, https://www.hhgp.hku.hk/), from C2i in Hong Kong, are both ambitious projects set to explore the determinants of the variability of the immune response in a healthy population, respectively in a French cohort and a Hong-Kong cohort.

After presenting the specificities behind each projects, this seminar will focus on the tools and analytical methods that have been developed by the teams to integrate, analyse, and share the different Omics datasets involved (Luminex, Nanostring, SNPs, WGS, Metagenomics, ...).

From the start of the MI project in 2012 to the latest development of the HHGP-HK, we will discuss the challenges we have encountered, as well as the lessons we have learnt along the way. We hope our experience can inform the next wave of innovations in the fields of immunology and personal medicine.

Dr Vincent Rouilly is a Senior Data Scientist. He received a MSc (Signal and Image Processing from ENST Paris), and a PhD (Bioengineering from Imperial College London). He is interested in developing new methods and tools to support the collection, the integration, and the analysis of biomedical data. In 2012, he joint the Milieu Intérieur project, at the Institut Pasteur in Paris to study the determinants of the variability of a healthy immune response, in a french-based cohort. Now with the Centre for Immunology & Infection, he is also contributing to the Healthy Human Global Project - Hong Kong to extend the scientific exploration on a Hong-Kong-based cohort.
